중국 고대의 시가(詩歌)를 엮은 유교 경전이다. 본래 3,000여 편이었는데 공자가 300여 편으로 간추렸다.
내용은 대부분 채집한 민요와 국가 의식에서 사용된 노래로, 생활, 정치, 사회에 대한 풍자 등이 그 내용이다. 『시경언해』는 『시경』에 한글로 토(吐)를 달고 번역한 책이다.

The Confucian text that compiled the oldest Chinese poems. Originally there were some three thousand of them, but Confucius selected around three hundred. Most of the contents are collected folk songs and songs used in national ceremonies. Content is satirical about life, politics, and society. Vernacular Translation of Book of Poetry is an annotated translation of Book of Poetry in Korean.
