조선 후기에 편찬된 책으로, 삼강을 지킨 모범 사례를 글과 그림으로 소개하고 한글 설명을 곁들였다. ‘삼강(三綱)’은 군신, 부부, 부자 사이에 지켜야 할 도리를 말하는데, 중국 한나라에서 유학을 국가 이념으로 정착시킨 동중서(董仲舒)의 저서 『춘추번로』에 나오는 말로, 성리학자들은 이를 윤리적 사회 규범으로 정착시켰다.

A book compiled in late Joseon, which introduces the exemplary models of those who kept the three fundamental principles in human relations(the Three Human Bonds). Introduced in classical Chinese writing and illustration, the book adds explanations in Korean. Samgang refers to the ethical duty that must be fulfilled between the king and the vassal, husband and wife, and father and son. The word “samgang”(the three human bonds) appeared in Dong Zhongshu’s book Chunqiu fanlu (Luxuriant Dew of the Spring and Autumn Annals). Dong Zhongshu worked to establish Confucianism as the state ideology in Han dynasty China. The neo-Confucianists of Joseon established samgang as an ethical social norm.
