This album of illustrations and writings chronicles Kang Se-hwang’s trip to Beijing in 1785 as part of an envoy to attending the tianshouyan, a banquet held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Qianlong Emperor’s accession to the throne. Kang Se-hwang, a prominent literati painter and calligrapher in the late Joseon Dynasty, held official positions and engaged in artistic activities with special recognition by King Yeongjo and King Jeongjo. At the age of 61, he assumed his first governmental role due to King Yeongjo’s solicitude, and at 69, he took on the role of director in the production of King Jeongjo’s royal portrait.
