1780년(정조 4) 박지원이 청나라의 열하를 여행하면서 기록한 일기체 형식의 견문록이다. 여행 과정에서 보고 들은 청나라의 문물이나 사회제도, 경제체제 등의 이로움을 자세히 설명하고, 조선은 어떠한 방식으로 본받아야 하는지 설명했다. 박지원은 규격화된 여러 종류의 수레를 조선에 도입하자는 등 상업 발전의 필요성을 구체적으로 제시했다. 이 도서는 1911년 조선광문회朝鮮光文會에서 간행했다.

This is a travelogue written in diary form by Bak Ji-won in 1780 (the fourth year of King Jeongjo’s reign) while he was on a journey to Rehe [Jehol] Province (Qing Dynasty). During his travels, he detailed the benefits of Qing culture, as well as its social institutions and economic systems, and explained how Joseon should emulate them. Bak Ji-won specifically suggested the need for commercial development, such as the introduction of several standardized types of carts into Joseon. The book was published in 1911 by the Joseon Gwangmunhoe.
